New Community-Oriented Design Addresses Climate

Corazón del Valle in Panorama City has a unique new design by Perkins and Will, which was created through a community design process with neighbors of the development. The design addresses the hot, arid climate through the use of greenery, water, shade and wind flow to provide comfortable public space. The shaded courtyards provide air to the apartments for both passive and active cooling. Greenery throughout the development is supplied completely by a greywater system using the onsite laundry.

The 180 apartments at Corazón del Valle will come in a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans for low-income families. Other components will include 3,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, as well as bicycle and vehicle parking.
